What happens when the hands
that machine jet engine bearings
turn to a bicycle hub?
GOKISO is a bicycle component brand launched in January 2010 by Kondo Machine, an ultra-precision machine tool and metal cutting company in Aichi, Japan. Founded in 1947, Kondo Machine makes jet engine bearings and ultra-precision dies, and its factory is certified to the JIS Q 9100 aerospace quality standard. GOKISO hubs and rims are machined in that same factory, to the same standard as aircraft parts.
The name comes from Gokiso Hachiman Shrine in the Gokiso district of Nagoya, the neighbourhood where the company began. Instead of following trends, GOKISO set out to keep design, machining and quality control entirely in its own hands and put "truly good things" into the world. That is where the brand starts.

An elastic structure machined into fingers around the outside of the hub body absorbs road shock and spoke tension. The flanges are separated from the bearing housing, so loads from the rim never reach the bearings directly.
The same thinking as a jet engine main shaft bearing: a bearing only performs when it sits straight and undeformed. Spherical nuts and washers keep the axle straight even when the frame flexes.
Titanium and extra super duralumin are NC-machined from a single block, then polished one by one by hand. A small factory makes them in small runs, so production takes time after an order.

The hub is the part of a bicycle that turns fastest and longest. As a bearing maker, GOKISO started from that rotation.
In an ordinary hub, forces from the rim, spokes and frame pass straight into the bearings. Even slight compression or tilt increases rolling resistance and shortens bearing life. GOKISO designed the body itself to act as a spring that intercepts those forces, so the bearings always turn under the same conditions.
That is why GOKISO wheels never chase ultra-light weight. The goals are rigidity that holds its shape under rider and load, and rotational efficiency that loses as little as possible between pedal and tire. It is also why a single hub set carries eleven bearings.

A bicycle hub brand becomes the company's first product for the consumer market, built on its own design and machining know-how.

Everything GOKISO knows.
The Super Climber is GOKISO's flagship hub. Body and axle are both machined whole from aerospace titanium alloy Ti-6Al-4V, and sixteen finger-like elastic elements cut around the outside of the body absorb road shock and pedaling torque. The complex, fin-like shape no other brand can replicate is not decoration. It is structure.
The goal is to stay light and rigid without losing suppleness in road racing on high-pressure tires and stiff carbon rims. It is made as a QR rim brake hub, a 12mm through axle disc hub, and in dedicated Moulton and Brompton sizes.

Sixteen fingers on each side link the bearing housing to the spoke flange and absorb external stress through elastic deformation.
Japanese DIN P5 non-contact sealed bearings. Eleven per rim brake set, fourteen per through axle disc set.

The Climber carries the Super Climber's elastic outer body design over to an extra super duralumin A7075-T73 body. The axle is still titanium Ti-6Al-4V. Fingers on both sides of the body link flange and bearing housing, and the rear body is partly thin-walled so it stays stiff under pedaling torque yet soft against impacts.
The rim brake S-spec weighs 202g front and 401g rear. The through axle disc version is built for flat mount disc road and gravel in 12 x 100 / 142mm, with Campagnolo, Shimano or SRAM XDR freehubs. Matte red and matte black are standard; small-batch colors such as brown, light grey and purple arrive from time to time.

The axle stays Ti-6Al-4V. Spherical nuts and washers hold it straight when clamped.
Larger-diameter single-row P5 bearings on both sides save weight. Eleven per rim set, twelve per disc set.
Anodized matte red and matte black as standard, with limited colors added run by run.

The through axle disc Climber pairs an elastic body with 14 fingers per side to a 12mm through axle. 260g front, 460g rear. The rear ratchet engages quickly with 4 pawls and 92 notches.
Choose a Campagnolo 11/12s, Shimano 11/12s or SRAM XDR 12s freehub body, swappable later. Rubi Workshop can also build it into a complete wheel on SLP rims.

The S-spec is QR 100 / 130mm for rim brakes; the through axle disc is 12 x 100 / 142mm.

Inside a GokisoThree structures shared by the Super Climber and Climber

Finger-like elements machined around the outside of the body connect the spoke flange to the bearing housing. Forces from rim and spokes are absorbed by the fingers' elastic deformation, and the bearings turn undeformed.

The flanges float, separated from the body shell. Road shock and frame twist are absorbed in between, so the axle always stays straight. It is the same principle as the elastic support of a jet engine main shaft bearing.

Shimano, Campagnolo and SRAM XDR freehub bodies are swapped with the GOKISO tool. The wheel stays laced, so the hub carries over when the drivetrain changes. Spherical nuts and washers keep the axle straight even when the dropouts are not perfectly parallel.
The smaller the wheel,
the more you feel
the hub.
GOKISO has made dedicated small wheel hubs from the start. Sizes no road hub can fit, such as the Moulton's 71mm front and the Brompton's 74mm front and 112mm rear, are produced in both Super Climber and Climber grades. For the disc-braked Birdy there is a QR disc hub.
A small wheel turns faster at the same speed and picks up more road buzz. It is where GOKISO's structure, isolating the bearings from external stress, is felt most clearly. As the official Moulton importer, Rubi Workshop keeps Moulton-specific GOKISO hubs in stock and builds the wheels too.
For Moulton, Brompton & Birdy

Moulton rear wheels use the standard 130mm Super Climber or Climber rear hub. Rubi Workshop will confirm the exact spec for your bike.
Thicker only
around the spoke holes.
Thinner everywhere else.
SLP is GOKISO's full carbon clincher rim. Carbon fiber is machine-wound onto a mandrel in unbroken layers, with extra carbon laid only around the spoke holes where loads concentrate. Rigid where it must be, light everywhere else. The 30mm wide profile supports the tire broadly to cut both rolling and aerodynamic resistance, and the logo reflects light at night.
Rubi Workshop stocks complete wheels pairing the 30 x 45mm disc rim with Climber or Super Climber through axle disc hubs. 24 holes front and rear, Sapim CX-Ray spokes. UCI certified and made in Japan.

Extra carbon only around the spoke holes where load concentrates raises stiffness and lowers overall weight.
A 30mm external width supports 28mm and wider tires naturally. The bead hook keeps the bead seated through corners.
Climber or Super Climber through axle disc hubs. A wheel's rotational efficiency is decided at the hub.
Rim machining, hub manufacturing and wheel building all in GOKISO's own factory. UCI certified, reflective logo.

SLP rims come in 35, 45 and 67mm depths at 28 to 30mm wide for disc brakes, and 38 and 50mm depths at 26mm wide for rim brakes. Hubs are Climber through axle disc, Super Climber through axle disc, Climber S-spec or standard.
The wide 30 x 45mm disc wheelset is the standard offering in Korea. Other depths and rim brake builds are made to order.

GOKISO hubs go into production in Japan once an order is confirmed, usually taking four to six months. We settle rim, spoke count and freehub body together, and Rubi Workshop builds the wheel. Moulton hubs and some models are available from Korean stock right away.
We also import service parts and tools such as the hub maintenance tool, freebody tool, spherical washers and O-ring kits. Bearing checks and freehub swaps are done at Rubi Workshop.
Rubi Company is the official importer of GOKISO in Korea. Bike shops wishing to stock GOKISO hubs, wheels and service parts, please contact Rubi Supply.
